After three training days, six training weekends, nine training evenings and between 200 and 320 training miles per scout, forty four District scouts from five District Groups gained medals, successfully completing the Ten Tors Challenge on Dartmoor over the weekend of 10/11th May 2008.

This was particularly pleasing for the fourteen strong training team as it represented a 100% success rate, with six District teams returning home complete with a further eight scouts taking part in the Event as members of Kilkenny Scouts (Bristol), Exeter District Scouts, Bramdean School and Stover School.

All actually from Ipplepen Scout Group!
Throughout training scouts managed to survive a mixture of weather from winds and rain (so strong that it prevented completing the weekend training) to idyllic warm sunshine that made camping a delight. Last year weather on the Sunday was so poor that for safety reasons the Event had to be closed down - whereas this year, the weather was very warm on both days requiring teams to be careful at managing fluid intake and sunstroke rather than hypothermia!

Well done scouts for proving your determination and hiking skills during the Event. Also, a very big thank you to you all for completing a full training weekend on 26th/27th April and still managing to make the St. George's Day Parade at Buckfast Abbey in FULL UNIFORM!

Just don't ask about the uniform........
This isn't how they looked on St George's Day
The programme of activities for 2008 closed on 30th May with a presentation BBQ attended by over 130 scouts, parents and leaders who together enjoyed the evening celebrating the achievements of all participating scouts. The DC Alan Partridge awarded certificates to recognise the achievements of the Scouts and to thank Ivor and his team for all their work in preparing the Scouts for the event.
